During the IFA 2017, Alcatel makes a surprise announcement of their new line-up smartphones, two for the “Idol” series and the other two for the “A” series. All of these are running on Android 7.1 “Nougat”.
Idol 5s
Starting the new smartphone in the “Idol” family is the Alcatel Idol 5s. Under the hood, there is a MediaTek MT6757 octa-core chipset, clocked at 2.35 GHz and comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of on-board storage. There is a microSD card slot for up to 256GB capacity. It features a 5.2-inch 1080p display with oleophobic coating and built in metal body with unibody design.
The camera setup includes a 12-megapixel main shooter, with a dual-LED flash and PDAF for fast capturing image. It is capable of video capture in Full HD resolution at 30 fps. The same goes for the 8-megapixel selfie shooter. All this hardware is powered by a 2,850 mAh non-removable battery. Also, it supports rapid battery charging.
The Idol 5 is now available with price of a quite hefty, €400 or roughly ~P24,230 in direct local conversion.

Idol 5
The Alcatel Idol 5 is the most modest one of the four. This one is also equipped with a 5.2-inch LTPS display with a 1080p resolution, octa-core 1.3GHz CPU inside a Mediatek MT6753 chip, a three gig of RAM and a smaller 16GB of storage. Furthermore on the display part, there’s an Asahi Dragontrail glass for adding the protection of the screen and an oleophobic coating.
For the optics department, the phone packs a single 13-megapixel lens with PDAF and dual-LED flash plus a 5-megapixel shooter for front camera. The battery downgrades by just 50 mAh, a 2,800 mAh capacity.
The Idol 5 is priced at €240 or ~P14,540 in direct local conversion.

A7 XL
Next in line comes the Alcatel A7 XL – a humongous 6.0-inch 1080p display panel with aluminum body into it. It goes to list a MediaTek MT6750s chipset with an octa-core 1.5GHz CPU, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, which is expandable via microSD card though. This one has a dual-camera configuration, a 12-megapixel primary camera and a secondary 2-megapixel lens. Selfies are covered by a 5-megapixel snapper with dedicated LED flash. Battery capacity is listed at 4,000 mAh.
The A7 XL is priced at €280 or ~P16,960.

Last but not the least, rather, is the Alcatel A7 – obviously with a slightly downgraded specs and is the most affordable in the newly-released handsets. The display is now a 5.5-inch 1080p display panel but has no aluminum body, instead, they used a plastic one. Battery stays at 4,000 mAh capacity. There’s a 16-megapixel rear-facing camera, and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera with LED flash, also.
The A7 is priced at €230 or ~P13,930.
