Cherry Mobile Aqua S9 Max
When Cherry Mobile re-branded and branched into different products a few months back, I thought they would slow down a bit on their smartphone business. But I was wrong. Cherry’s come back is a big surprise. And they know what they want. They want to infiltrate the mobile gaming arena by introducing Cherry Mobile’s best gaming smartphone of 2020, the Cherry Mobile Aqua S9 Max. The official price tag of this gaming phone is P9,999.
Promotional pricing was very competitive at only P6,999 but it lasted only a few hours. The “first wave” was sold out immediately.

Like I mentioned in my quick unboxing video, the “traditional” packaging is still observed — a big box complete with marketing labels and branding. Here’s a quick look at the retail box.
And here’s our unboxing experience.
Display and UI
You have a huge display on this phone — 6.53″ FHD+ IPS TrueView Teardrop Display and the color is bright and crisp. There are new viewing angle issues, everything is just good-looking.
Here’s what the UI looks like.
These are the raw, unedited photos I took using the default camera settings of the phone.
I’d say Cherry Mobile has leveled up their brand in so far as the build quality of their latest offering. The Cherry Mobile Aqua S9 Max presents itself with a high-quality build and premium look. When I hold it for the first time, I could not believe that this will be sold for only P9,999.
If there’s one last thing Cherry Mobile has to improve on their phones, it’s the camera department. I’ve found the default camera app still basic. Photos are still pale and boring unlike the current brands like realme and Xiaomi.
Audio playback is loud and solid, but I noticed that the treble is a little louder than the base. A little “high-pitched” I should say.
The face unlock feature and the fingerprint scanner are on-point. Enrolment is fast and easy as well as unlocking the phone is a breeze.
Lastly, the phone uses a USB Type-C. This has been the practice of Cherry Mobile which I should praise personally because other brands still use micro USB to lower the cost of their devices.
Does it become hot?
You may ask that question, most especially during games. But since I am not a gamer, here’s what I personally observed.
The device became warm during the setup. When I was configuring it for the first time and apps are installing, it became a little warm but it was tolerable.
The phone is equipped with liquid-cooling technology, so I suppose it will compensate during your high-demand games.
Where to buy it?
But, you have to wait for the “second wave” as it was sold out immediately during the promotion period.
