HMD Global has the Nokia 1, Nokia 7 Plus and Nokia 8 Sirocco made official at the Mobile World Congress 2018.
The Nokia 1 is the cheapest among the three, with Android 8.1 “Oreo Go” operating system installed. The Android Go is a program distributed for some devices with 1GB RAM or less. This has been implemented to reduce mobile data usage by enabling the Data Saver mode by default. It will also strip down some of the Google applications to reduce power consumption, like the Google Play Store, Google Play Services, and Gmail. Specs-wise, the design of the phone reminiscent of the former Nokia “Asha” series. The back cover is now removable, which they re-introduced the Xpress-on covers that were first appeared in 1998, with Nokia 5110. The front dominates the 4.5″ FWVGA IPS display.
Measuring 133.6 x 67.78 x 9.5 mm, the Nokia 1 weighs at 131 grams, including the battery and packs with 2,150 mAh removable capacity. To add the protection, the smartphone is IP52 certified, which is protected against falling drops of water. There’s a MediaTek MT6737M quad-core chipset, paired with 8GB storage (expandable up to 128GB) and 1GB RAM. For photography, the primary camera has a 5-megapixel, accompanied by LED flash and 2-megapixel for capturing our selfies. It will be launched globally next month, and it costs $85.
The Nokia 7 Plus, on the other hand, is an upper mid-range smartphone that is powered by Snapdragon 660 SoC. It is the successor of last year’s Nokia 7 with enhanced features. It is backed up by either 4GB or 6GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable storage. The screen is now upgraded to 6.0-inch, compared to the 5.2-inch previously, with the same IPS LCD display and Series 6000 aluminum body. Both the dual rear cameras (12-megapixel + 13-megapixel) and the selfie shooter (16-megapixel) are integrated with Carl Zeiss optics.
It will ship with Android 8.0 “Oreo” and features the “Dual-Sight”, allowing the users to use both front and rear cameras simultaneously to capture “boothies”. The Nokia 7 Plus is slated for release starting April 18 in the European continent. Soon, it’ll be coming to Asia and Africa, with an official price tag of €399.
Lastly, the Nokia 8 Sirocco. It bears with a 5.5-inch P-OLED display with an edge screen, similar to the Samsung’s Note “Edge” devices, sitting above the Nokia 7 Plus as the “flagship”. The company now uses the 18:9 trending aspect ratio with an awesome 128GB ROM and 6GB RAM. Powering the Nokia 8 Sirocco is the 2017’s Snapdragon 835 SoC complete with Adreno 540 for graphics processing unit.
Camera-wise, the Nokia 8 Sirocco comes with two 12-megapixel lenses with Carl Zeiss optics. The front camera offers a 5-megapixel sensor. The price tag of the smartphone has been set at €749 without taxes and subsidies, with an expected release on April 2018. It will be available in two colors: Black/Copper and White/Copper variants.
