PLDT reports record-breaking growth for fiber business in 2021

PLDT, the Philippines’ largest fully integrated telco, reported unprecedented growth in its fiber business, nearly doubling its revenue from Php 14.9 billion to Php 33 billion year on year, with net additions of 1.13 million new fiber subscribers in 2021 alone, despite stricter alert levels imposed last year.

PLDT remains the preferred choice among households, enabling work and school-from-home setups, and the dependable partner among businesses for their remote operations, thanks to the introduction of affordable and faster fiber-speed plans and the expansion of fiber-to-the-home facilities to more regions and islands.

“2021 proved to be a record-breaking year for PLDT as we delivered all-time highs across the board despite the challenges brought about by the pandemic, calamities and hyper competition,” said Alfredo S. Panlilio, PLDT and Smart President and CEO.

PLDT’s total fixed broadband users are now approaching 3 million, a record high for the company, as it continues to average over 107,000 monthly installations towards the end of the year, exceeding the initial objective of a million new fiber subscribers for 2021. The Home team plans to pursue further penetration in Luzon in 2022, as well as extend its expansion into new locations in Visayas and Mindanao.

“This exceptional performance sets the foundation for 2022 and beyond as we continue to build on our strengths as an integrated telco, and on our commitment to serve our customers in the best way possible,” he added.

PLDT management is enthusiastic about the Home business because it will likely generate revenues at a faster rate as it adds more fiber users, and since the market is still underpenetrated at about 20%, compared to up to 50% in the Asian area.

“We continuously expand our network and upgrade our broadband speeds so that Filipinos can have better digital experiences to earn, work, and study from their homes, because fast internet has become an essential that families depend on to progress and live better,” says Jeremiah de la Cruz, Senior Advisor Home Business.

According to the Ookla Speedtest Awards Q3-Q4 2021, PLDT Home is the fastest broadband network in the Philippines for the fourth consecutive year. PLDT had peak download speeds of 203.97 Mbps and maximum upload speeds of 217.07 Mbps in a recent Ookla survey, giving it a Speed Score of 77.24.
