“The three new sites expand the ‘Libreng Tawag’ stations that we had set up in the region on Wednesday evening. PLDT and Smart were the first telcos to offer free call services in quake-hit Vigan City, Ilocos Sur following the tremors. We later opened another Libreng Tawag site in Bangued, Abra before midnight,” said Cathy Yang, FVP & Group Head of Corporate Communications at PLDT and Smart.
As of Thursday, PLDT and Smart have activated ‘Libreng Tawag, Libreng WiFi’ stations at the following locations:
- Landmark Building, Jose Singson St., Barangay VIII, Poblacion, Vigan City
- Vigan Northern Alliance Trading, 3rd Floor UNP Town Center, Tamag, Vigan City
- Candon City PD Office, Corner Gaerlan and Abaya St., San Isidro, Candon
- Abra PD Office, Horizon St. Zone 7, Bangued
- Benguet Agri Pinoy Trading Center, Strawberry Fields, La Trinidad
PLDT and Smart continue to collaborate with local government units as they get ready to send relief aid to badly damaged towns, in addition to offering communication as help to affected individuals.
The ‘Libreng Tawag, Libreng WiFi’ initiative and aid distribution from PLDT and Smart highlight the PLDT Group’s dedication to building a safe and smart Philippines by offering continuous communication services, immediate response through network resilience, relief assistance to communities affected by disasters, and aid in recovery.
The initiatives to make communities more disaster-resistant are consistent with PLDT and Smart’s commitment to assisting the nation in achieving Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 11, which calls for inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable cities and human settlements by drastically reducing the number of disaster victims.
