Albay, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Batangas, Cavite, and Laguna, which were all hit by the strong tropical storm PaengPH, got help from PLDT and its wireless unit Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart).
“PLDT and Smart first served the impacted communities with communications as aid, through our Libreng Tawag, Libreng Charging, Libreng Wi-Fi, emergency load assistance, and Ligtas Kits. With the help of PLDT-Smart Foundation and our wider Tulong Kapatid partners through the MVP Group of Companies, we’re sending relief to the most affected, to help them recover,” said Cathy Yang, First Vice President and Group Head of Corporate Communications at PLDT and Smart.
PLDT-Smart Foundation (PSF) was able to deliver food packets to Maguindanao del Norte, North Cotabato, and Zamboanga City with the help of PLDT and Smart’s Mindanao personnel.
Prior to the arrival of ‘Paeng’ in the Philippine islands, PLDT and Smart aided Albay’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office by delivering one Ligtas Kit, an all-in-one communications kit that provides immediate, emergency communications support to communities in times of disaster.
PSF has also offered the municipality of Datu Odin Sinsuat in Maguindanao del Norte with their own Ligtas Kit to aid with future disaster risk activities.
More assistance supplies are on their way as the Group works to bring much-needed aid to other ‘Paeng’-affected areas.
Residents of Carmona, Cavite, were also able to get relief aid through the Group’s sales teams. Carmona Mayor Dahlia Loyola and ABC President Almario Zamora were among those present during the turnover. Imus City Mayor AA Advincula also participated in the delivery of food boxes to residents of PLDT and Smart.
PLDT, Smart, and PSF have distributed 2,500 food kits to provinces in Luzon and Mindanao to date. Volunteers from PLDT and Smart are already on their way to more areas hit hard by catastrophic tropical storm ‘Paeng.’
PLDT and Smart emphasize the importance of communication aid as a lifeline during catastrophes and how prioritizing this can help speed up and improve the delivery of relief to individuals in need.
