The famous local fastfood chain does not only serve 2-pc chickenjoy and a large french fries, they also value family, relationships and they are giving away P100,000 for the winning family this year.

To formally kick off the 2nd Jollibee Family Values award, a roundtable discussion was held at the Eastwood Richmonde Hotel with invited panelists and judges discussed the topic “The Filipino Family in the Digital Age”.

The roundtable discussion were hosted by successful couple and TV personalities Julius Babao of ABS-CBN and Tintin Bersola-Babao of TV 5. We learned that the couple were judges in the first awards last year. This year, new set of judges will be composed of Jollibbee President Ms. Grace Tan Caktiong, Fr. Allan Abuan of the Center of Family Ministries, DSWD Usec Alicia Bala, Dr. Queen Lee-Chua who is an academician and a journalist, Ms. Theresa Jotie – Jollibee VP for HR. Lawyer and media personality Atty. Adel Tamano is also among the new set of judges, entrepreneur Audrey Tan-Zubiri, (yes, she is the wife of former Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri), and marriage and family counselor Maribel Sison-Dionisio.

The panelists discussed the effects of today’s technology – such as social media, instant messaging, mobile phones, and the internet per se, in shaping the values of the family and exchanged opinions and insights whether technology strengthens or weakens family ties.

Tech journalist Jerry Liao of Infochat were also present to share his view as tech journalist and a father.

Liao said parents should accept that this is the kid’s world now, not the parents world. Where control is no longer valid is now replaced by supervision. He said that it is the parents role to educate and monitor not prevent. He also highlighted that kids under 13 will now be allowed to Facebook, but parents should approve friends request.

They mentioned that last year they received 1,300 nominations nationwide, among the nominees 5 families won the award. This year a cash prize of P100,000 is at stake, a P10-thousand worth of Jollibee GC, a round trip ticket to any local destination from Airphil Express, a whole-day passes to Manila Ocean Partk, and trophy designed by renowned brass sculptor Michael Cacnio to the winning families.

To join the search, nominators should accomplish the nomination form available for free in all Jollibee branches nationwide or may be downloaded at Jollibee’s corporate websiteand answer the questionnaire on the nominated family’s eligibility. Deadline of submission of entries is on or before August 31, 2012.
