OnePlus 5 is the new flagship phone for this year and the company’s thinnest flagship ever. The dual-camera set-up on the back is one of the main highlights of the handset, alongside the humongous 8GB of RAM.
The device carries a 5.5-inch 1080p display with Optic AMOLED screen and houses a 3D Corning Gorilla Glass panel for more protection. At the back part of the phone is the unusual U-band antenna design which resembles the Apple iPhone 7 Plus. What makes more impressive on the OnePlus 5 is the premium feel to touch as it has a full metal body design that was made by anodized aluminum for extra durable and corrosion-resistant. Other bonus feature is the DCI-P3 for wide gamut colorspace. It offers cinema-like experience when watching movies or music videos.
At the left side of the phone lies an alert sliding, above the volume button which enables the user to change either Silent, Do Not Disturb or just normal notifications. There’s a 3.5 mm jack so you have no worries in using wired headsets or earphones when listening to your favorite music.
Two variants of the OnePlus 5 will be available: the 64GB storage with 6GB RAM and the large 128GB ROM, coupled with 8GB RAM. Please do note that there is no microSD card slot inside the phone. Kindly check the prices on the table below for reference.
OnePlus 5 uses the flagship-level Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 MSM8998 chipset with a clock speed of up to 2.45Ghz, accompanied with Adreno 540 GPU. It delivers the highest peak performance to date and more battery-efficient than the previous OnePlus 3T, as the company claims; even the battery capacity is lower at 3,300 mAh, compared to the predecessor that has 3,400 mAh. Using dash charge, it’ll give you a full day usage of the phone in just 30 minutes of charging.
Now, the exciting part is the camera. The rear comes in a dual camera configuration: the main 16-megapixel lens with Sony IMX398 sensor, which was first used exclusively only for Oppo smartphones, and f/1.7 aperture for low-lighting condition. The secondary rear camera packs a 20-megapixel lens with Sony IMX350 sensor and f/2.6 aperture with telephoto lens. There’s a dual-LED flash and the unique Portrait Mode that creates the “bokeh” effect for automatically blurring the background of the subject in an image. The 16-megapixel front camera lens has a Sony IMX371 sensor with f/2.0 aperture and shoots 1080p video recording. In addition, the camera supports the Qualcomm Spectra ISP for improving image quality and faster auto-focus.
The device will be available on their website beginning June 27 in United States, Canada and some European countries, while different date on Asian markets. A special sale is happening today in a one-day pop-up physical store in New York City, and tomorrow (June 22: Manila time) in several capital cities in the European continent: Berlin (Germany), Amsterdam (The Netherlands), Paris (France), Helsinki (Finland), London (Great Britain), and Copenhagen (Denmark).
