Announced last December, the OPPO F5 Youth (with a code CPH1725) is the youngest sibling of the three variants, the OPPO F5, and the bigger OPPO F5 6GB. It is the most affordable 18:9 screen phone of OPPO yet, designed for yuppies and “Millenials”.
This review is just like an update we had on our OPPO F5 full review. We’ll update and compare the changes in terms of performance, battery life and photography
Table of contents:
You may read our first quick review and first impressions of OPPO F5 Youth.
Same as F5, the F5 Youth has its IPS Display with 2160 x 1080 at 403ppi pixel density in 18:9 aspect ratio. It also have a Corning Gorilla Glass protection. It comes with pre-attached screen protector. We find out that the colors are accurate and vibrant. Viewing angles is good and it doesn’t have a color shift when tilted at any angles.
Performance and Benchmarks
Nothing much changed with the OPPO F5 Youth in terms of its design, and its MediaTek MT6763T Helio P23 octa-core processor on board paired with an ARM Mali-G71 MP2 GPU. OPPO F5 Youth it has 3GB of RAM, compared with F5 with 4GB of RAM.
The fingerprint at the back is fast and accurate. But be ready to be accustomed to the speedy face unlock, as it is so fast and accurate (we also covered how the ‘speedy face unlock’ works on our OPPO F5 review). You need to press power button first before you unlock the phone with your face.
The multitasking is so snappy at all, however, since OPPO F5 Youth has a 3GB RAM compare of what F5’s has, you’ll notice a slight delay in opening apps but it won’t interrupts what you are doing on the phone. I haven’t experienced app freezing at all. We tested an online game such as AOV in Full HD display and it ran smoothly. Of course, it also works for casual games like Wordscapes. Multitasking like browsing the web and using the social media is so snappy and I haven’t experienced lagging or an app force closing.
Since the Color OS is based on Android 7.1, split screen through apps is not a problem. Most of the updated apps in the Play Store are optimized with the split screen, shrinking app elements is not also a problem.
Location and GPS are accurate since it has most of its sensors on the phone. In addition, you can also capture 360-degree images since there’s a Gyroscope sensor in the phone. Just have your Google Streetview installed on your OPPO F5 Youth
- Antutu Benchmarks: 67,869
- PC Mark Battery Test: 10 Hours, 33 Minutes
- Multi-Core: 2257
- Metal 1576
- Chrome Browser 1567
- Webview: 3419
OPPO F5 has its decent 3,200 mAh battery capacity on board. In my test for PC Mark battery test, it lasts up to 10 hours and 33 minutes when finally drops it to 20%. Upon daily usage, it takes me almost a day of regular usage. Turning on Power Saving mode can extend its battery life. I don’t have to worry about to bring my charger every time to charge the device. When the battery is empty, the device can charge up to 2 hours.
Same as OPPO F5 we reviewed last time, the F5 Youth runs Color OS 3.2 in Android 7.1 Nougat. We covered the basics of the Color OS in our previous review. We noticed that upon doing a review, there are several over-the-air updates are coming in. One of the noticeable changes on one update we received is the inclusion of watermark and several widgets when taking photos. See it on the action on our Camera and Video section which is up next.
Camera and Video
OPPO F5 Youth has its 13MP f/2.2 AF rear camera w/ LED flash and 16MP f/2.0 A.I. Beauty front camera, which is reduced from the OPPO F5.
OPPO, again, never fails its customers to provide the picture-perfect photos with their lineups, up to this OPPO F5 Youth. Here are the samples of shots:
OPPO F5 Youth’s main camera UI, features are also the same with what OPPO F5 have in common. The AI beautify, manual mode, panorama, and other features are also present.
Connectivity and Telephony
Gladly, all OPPO F5 variants, like the Youth has most of the LTE bands supported on the phone, including the Band 28, which is the 700 MHz frequency, that is rolled out by most of our carriers. You may expect what the true LTE+ will bring during internet browsing. Of course, it depends on your location.
What I liked also with the OPPO F5 Youth is their dedicated Dual SIM and Expandable microSD Card Memory Slot. Means, you can insert two SIMs and your memory card at the same time. The phone has its dual SIM dual standby mode, however, only the slot 1 supports LTE, while the other is 3G only.
Making voice calls is pretty clear. Thanks to noise cancellation. The earpiece is pretty loud that is enough to hear the person you are calling outdoors.
The OPPO F5 Youth is the ‘younger’ sibling of Oppo F5 variants, along with the OPPO F5 and OPPO F5 6GB. Basically, a good, decent and affordable phone to take advantage of its Fingerprint Sensor (that is not present to OPPO A83 that is released this year) and Speedy Face Unlock. It is entry-variant of the OPPO F5 family but belongs to OPPO’s line up of phones to join the 18:9 screen bandwagon. Not because it is an entry variant of OPPO F5 family, it is not right to underestimate the power of this phone.
With OPPO F5 Youth, you are not missing a lot of its feature. All of the features that you can find with OPPO F5 is there (head over to our OPPO F5 review). If you have something to say that OPPO F5 and other 18:9 screen phone is ‘expensive’, then, choose OPPO F5 Youth. Take advantage of it’s 6-inch screen and 18:9 aspect ratio. OPPO F5 Youth is now also P12,990 from P13,990! Men, this is a great deal! OPPO F5 Youth is still a good midrange phone that is now available today.
