RELX International supports government on e-cigarette’s taxes and policies

In order to support and comply with the government’s mandate on policies regarding electronic cigarettes, the company RELX International, which manufactures electronic cigarettes, has announced that beginning on May 25, 2022, flavored vape products will no longer be available in its outlets located across the nation.

It is against the law to produce, import, sell, or distribute vapor products in the Philippines that have a flavoring that is anything other than plain tobacco or plain menthol, as stated in Republic Act (RA) 11467 and Joint Memorandum Circular (JMC) No. 003-2020. These laws were passed by the Philippine government. The aim of Republic Act (RA) 11467, which President Rodrigo Duterte gave his signature to on January 22, 2020, is to raise the excise tax rates on alcoholic beverages, heated tobacco products, and vape products in order to generate funds for the government so that it can provide quality and affordable medical care. Meanwhile, JMC 003-2020 makes it illegal to add any taste to vapor products, with the exception of menthol and plain tobacco flavors.

This move is a reflection of the company’s commitment to support important reforms that will benefit the collection of tax revenues, cater to adult smokers of legal smoking age, protect access to electronic cigarettes among minors, and ensure responsible and standard-compliant electronic cigarettes in retail points across the country.
RELX complies with governments and works with its partners to deliver quality products to adult smokers of legal smoking age through its cutting-edge products and industry-leading technologies, which are developed by its talented and dedicated employees. RELX’s operations are spread across the globe.
