U-Hop to operate Motorcycle Taxi

Aside from Grab and Uber, there are other ride-sharing app that also exist. One of them is U-HOP. U-Hop started as an app-based transportation network company that utilize shuttle vans.

U-Hop is a transport business that has a track record of 15 years coming from the company of Shangrilacars.

U-Hop shuttle vans are subscription based that offer a starting fee of P693 weekly.

The opportunity of ride-sharing business has already evolved with U-Hop concept of “motorcycle taxi”.

‘Motorcycle Taxis’ is a widely-practiced mode of transportation in Bangkok, Thailand, a country similar to us but one with a dramatically more efficient mass transit system. Despite this, they have adopted this concept to further lessen the volume of vehicles on the road.

Locally this mode of transportation is called “Habal-habal”.

If you’re travelling by yourself, instead of taking your car or a taxi, you just catch a ride on a motorcycle. It’s smaller, faster and occupies less space on the road.

Motorcycle owners who travel on their motorbikes can take a passenger with the same route as them. It is similar to the concept of carpooling except it is motorcycle-pooling.

U-Hop’s objective is to maximize the use of motorcycles already existing and traveling. We do not want more motorcycles on the road, instead we keep the number of existing motorcycles and we lessen the number of cars on the road by taking passengers.

Similar to U-Hop’s technology on shuttle service, rides on motorcycle taxis can be booked through its app. Passengers are picked up and then dropped off.

U-Hop also plans to help jobless Filipinos, who owns motorcycles, to be its partner drivers for ‘Motorcycle Taxis.’

U-Hop also wants to help small and medium enterprises or SME’s who cannot afford to have their own fleet of delivery vehicles. Small restaurants, hardwares, drugstores and other enterprises who may want to deliver their products to their customers can utilize U- HOP Motorcycle Taxis. By using U-Hop, they will cut down on the cost of purchasing their own motorcycles and hiring drivers, and they would also help lessen the volume of vehicles on the road.

A fixed rate of as low as P25 one way fare will be charged to the passenger while P50 delivery charge for a service similar to Grab Express.
