Unboxing Kata F1S
We now have the upcoming Kata smartphone, the successor to the Kata F1. The F1s has an upgraded specification but still housed on the same body, size and battery.
Scheduled to be launched locally in October 17, Kata F1s is one of the most affordable smartphone at only P4,499. At the price tag, you get a 1.3GHz MTK MT6582 Quad Core Processor, 8MP Rear & 5MP Front Camera, Android KitKat 4.4, Dual SIM (SIM1 is micro-SIM, second SIM is regular SIM), 1GB of RAM & 8GB Internal Storage, plus a 10G Kata Cloud storage free. Storage can be expanded via micro-SD.
Packaging has the same signature across all Kata smartphone and it comes with the standard accessories inside the box.
A USB cable, a slightly changed charger it is now slimmer, the 1,550mAH battery, manual and the headset. Nothing more nothing less.
Like the other brands, Kata has been improving in their design, the F1S has better design compared to the M2 in my opinion, it looks better with the curves around it, including the plastic casing with a carbon fiber-like finish which is also found in the M2.
On top you will find the 3.5 audio port and the micro-USB port for charging and file transfering, while on the right side is the power button, the volume rocker is on the left side of the phone.
We asked Kata Philippines if they made a “smart cover” for this model, but they said they will only make a jelly case.
(The high-resolution photos presented here is in my Flickr account, check the album here.)
In front you will find the usual capacitive buttons, this has been a standard with most of the Kata smarpthones, menu, home and back buttons which are not configurable.
It comes with a stock Android Kitkat 4.4 and as expected the OTG functionality is disabled in this model.
Rear camera is at 8MP which I think is good enough for this model, the front has 5MP. I am interested with both cameras because I was really happy with the Xiaomi Redmi 1S. Although the Redmi1S front camera has only 1.6MP.
I already have my initial benchmarks but I will share it in my full review. 🙂 I will keep you hanging a little bit on that.
I like the form factor of F1s, its a small one at only 4.5-inch. Screen resolution is 540 x 960 at 240 dpi. You have to train your eyes to adjust to its small display, but you can always adjust the font size if you want a bigger display.
What I am worried about is the 1,550 mAH battery life. If Redmi1S gave me 3 hours only with data turned on, how much more a smaller capacity. But let us see how it performs.
I know have higher expectation because I just reviewed Xiaomi Redmi 1S and I was sold out with that phone. Although I can’t compare it head to head because Redmi 1S has Snapdradon processor, but at least I can test quality of photos with the Kata F1s. Redmi 1S has an SRP of only P5,599 I went well, and I scored it a 4/5 in my review. This model (F1S) comes close to that, so let us see how it will perform.
Redmi 1S will be available very soon and SRP is at P4,499. Watch out for its public unboxing.
