We had a chance to a sneak preview of the upcoming ultrabook of Acer on our way back home from our Summer Adventure in Samal Island two days ago- the 13” Aspire S5 by Acer is one of the most awesome and thinnest that we have seen so far.
The body is partly aluminum while the track pad area is plastic, the track pad is big enough almost the size of the MacbookPro, chiclet-type keyboard have become a common standard in ultrabooks nowadays, however backlighting feature was missing on S5.
There are features that is new to Acer Aspire S5, among them are the concealed ports; you will not see the common ports in the side of the laptop – no USB ports, HDMI or VGA, only the power connector is not hidden and it has new look too. The power port is now magsafe-look-a-like (Macbook style), it is no longer the typical ones for laptops.
On the left side you will only see the power button, the SD card reader and on the other side is only the 3.5mm port for audio. There is also a little button on the upper right corner of the keyboard that can be mistaken as the power button. That mysterious button when pressed opens up the hidden ports at back of the laptop. The laptop will lift a bit like hydraulic-powered machine and ports will show up. Note that you cannot open the hidden ports if your laptop is off.
One of the nicest track pad is in this ultrabook. A nearly macbook feature with its pinching, rotating, scrolling with double fingers are very convenient now.

Cold boot takes only max of 18 seconds and about 3 seconds on sleep mow. We noticed additional port at the back – thunderbolt port have been included for this model for super fast file transfer.
The LCD panel construction is still wobbly much like of its first model S3. S5 is still very light and comes in black.
The Aspire S5 is expected to be launched in June of this year and first shipments will be available before the end of the month of June.
