A few days before Metro Manila was “locked down” a.k.a. Enhanced Community Quarantine due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, Canon Marketing Philippines, Inc. (CMPI) loaned me their latest professional camera, the EOS 1DX Mark III (launched in PH on February 13, 2020).
I was excited to bring it to Marilaque (Siera Madre) where tons of motorcycle riders visit for a weekend ride.
However, the lockdown shuts us down for the next three months.
The dream of taking action shots in the twisties of Marilaque never happened.

Canon EOS 1DX Marck III price
This professional camera is now available in the market bearing the price tag of P399,000.
Canon EOS 1DX Mark III x Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS III USM
The best tandem for the supposedly Marilaque shoot would be a fast zoom lens. Since I don’t like to risk going out, I did what can be done at home.
If you had a Canon DSLR before, you will get the hang of it within an hour of use. The very huge difference would be the weight. This gigantic camera weighs 1.25kg (body only).
Now add the EF 70-200 f/2.8 III USM lens with 1.49kg, you are now ready for a good workout for the day.
It is a very heavy machine to carry around.
EOS 1DX Mark III: Quarantine Photos
To comply with the government’s policy and to help in protecting everyone in the community, I shot everything found inside our home.
This heavyweight money-making machine should be in the hands of studio owners. This should sit on a sturdy movable tripod.
The brave photojournalist in the news agencies must be super fit to carry this around during the performance of his job.
In the era of super lightweight camera equipment, I still wonder why Canon is still manufacturing a camera in this weight category.
In terms of the quality of the images, I am hands-down sold out. No other cameras can produce such a beautiful gallery than this one taken with 1DX Mark III.
I can’t argue with the pricing, because during the launch, many of the Canon photographers seem to agree with the price tag.
But my question remains…
Do we really need this heavyweight camera to produce high-quality images?
