Unboxing: The Retail Package

Above is a slideshow of the retail package of the Infinix Hot 10 Play.

Let me break it down to you one by one.

  • A free clear hard case is included. It has a quality feel to it, as opposed to the clear case featured on most retail packaging from realme, Xiaomi, and other brands.
  • The SIM Tray is tailored to the Filipino market, including a dual SIM slot and a dedicated MicroSD slot for extra capacity. The phone already has a 64GB internal storage capacity.
  • There’s also the usual white MicroUSB cable and a wall charger.

Display and UI Experience

The improved Infinix Hot 10 Play boasts a 6.82-inch HD+ IPS display with a resolution of 1640 x 720 pixels and a pixel density of 262ppi. This one is massive, to say the least. If you’re like me and use your phone a lot for media consumption, such as watching YouTube videos and Netflix movies, you’ll love this phone even more.

Here’s what the UI looks like out of the box.

Infinix Hot Play UI

I’m used to having dark mode on my phone, and the Infinix Hot 10 Play has it right out of the box. The apps are also pre-configured with the app drawer as a default leaving users the ease of finding their fave apps. Customizing or grouping it per screen is the next step to do.

Infinix Hot Play Bezel

It has very thin bezels all around the screen, except at the bottom, where it is somewhat thicker but not invasive. The screen has excellent color but nothing exceptional; it does, however, have adaptive brightness and Eye Care, as well as system-wide dark mode support.

Performance

To consider this phone, you need to know that it is powered by a 2.0GHz MediaTek Helio G25 octa-core processor. There is a 4GB RAM + 64GB internal storage, microSD (dedicated) card slot.

The MediaTek Helio G35 brings the benefits of HyperEngine technology to gaming devices, delivering smooth performance, improved power efficiency, and reliable, low-latency connectivity. The HOT 10 PLAY is a solid mobile gaming device with this hardware combo.

Casual games will run easily, but graphics-intensive games will run at a reduced resolution. It can only operate at low graphics quality, but it can handle a high frame rate, similar to Call of Duty Mobile. Despite the lack of smoothness in the gameplay, it is still enjoyable.

Camera

The Infinix Hot 10 Play has these cameras on-board — A 13MP + AI lens rear cameras, LED flash
8MP selfie camera.

This is how the camera ap UI looks like.

The camera app features a variety of shooting modes, including Slow-motion, video, AI cam (photo), beauty, bokeh, and AR Shot, which provides a variety of fascinating AR animations that are ideal for selfies.

In terms of picture quality, it can capture great photographs with good details and sharpness when used in daylight and is Instagram-worthy. In low-light situations, however, pictures can be blurry or distorted, thus it’s advisable to utilize the LED flash to get a better image.

Battery

With such a massive display, a hefty battery is also required; this phone features a 6,000mAh battery. The company claims it can have 55.7 days of standby, 155 hours of music playback, 53.4 hours of calling, and 13.8 hours of gaming, based on data from Infinix’s lab.

On a full charge, the HOT 10 PLAY can last almost two days, which is a lot of screen time considering its large screen. Unfortunately, charging the battery takes a long time because it only comes with a 10W charger.

Verdict

If you’re looking for a smartphone under P5,000, the Infinix HOT 10 PLAY, with its price of P4990, is already a good bargain. Its huge display is ideal for multimedia and gaming. The build is overall very good and does not look like a cheap phone after all.

The cameras are also capable of taking photos in the daytime, shooting 1080p video, and providing overall high performance.

These are the features that you can consider when purchasing this phone: a large display, a sleek and attractive design, a capable selfie camera, a decent CPU, and a large battery.

Cons include only having HD+ resolution, the UI XOS 7.0 looking boring, using a micro-USB connector (which is already an outdated technology), no fast charge support (which implies longer charging time), and the back camera may be better.
