The gaming platform’s commitment comes after a foiled school attack plot in Calamba, Laguna, this year involving seven minors who were reportedly radicalized and groomed through Roblox, and following scrutiny over a shooting incident at Ateneo de Zamboanga University. These incidents intensified concerns about online gaming safety for Philippine youth and prompted urgent government action.

Philippine National ID Integration
The most significant measure is Roblox’s plan to integrate the Philippine National ID (PhilID) system into its user verification process. This step aims to verify the actual identity of users and make it substantially harder for adult predators and groomers to create fake accounts targeting children. AI-based age verification with an estimated margin of error of 1.4 years has already been deployed—accounts that skip the age check will have chat functions disabled and access restricted to Roblox’s kids’ catalog only.
