PayMaya announces successful trials of mobile money interoperability in PH

If there is one to like about Telcos in the Philippines, it is when they implement interoperability.

Remember when GCASH silently rolled out a feature that can load a Sun or Smart prepaid?

With Globe GCash, you can pay bills, buy prepaid load, shop online, send or receive money, from your mobile phone, to all GCASH users which are majority are Globe subscribers.

But in September 2013, they enabled GCASH to load prepaid SIM of Smart and SUN, a competing telco.

Back to our headline today, PayMaya, a product of Voyager Innovations, the digital innovations arm of PLDT and Smart, is a virtual card and a physical VISA card can be used to shop online and offline.

PayMaya-X-GCASH

Voyager Innovation announced that it has successfully conducted mobile money interoperability trials between its digital payments mobile app Paymaya with Globe’s GCash

PayMaya subscribers, which are mostly Smart subscribers, can now send money to GCASH subscribers.

“This is a step toward advancing the future our digital economy. Even before this initiative, we have pioneered a mobile payments solution that can be used by users from any telco provider by launching PayMaya, an over-the-top digital service. Interoperability, therefore, is but a natural progression in the ongoing evolution of financial technology services in the country,” said Orlando B. Vea, President and CEO of PayMaya Philippines.

PayMaya also reiterated its full support behind mobile money interoperability in the country, which will soon allow users to receive and transfer funds from their PayMaya accounts to other mobile money users nationwide.
