Unboxing WD MyCloud 3TB, First Impressions

Western Digital outs two private cloud solutions few days ago in the Philippines. During the launch they raffled off two 3TB MyCloud. I won one of the 3TB. Yay!

Today, we finally unboxed the 3TB MyCloud and connected it to my Home router.

The 3TB model retails at P8,990. Check the other pricing in our post here.

WD MyCloud 3TB. What’s inside the box:

The blue box contains the items you need to setup your own cloud: the external hard drive on plastic housing, the power cable with three detachable connectors, a LAN cable, and the warranty card.

Here’s how it looks when you connect the cables.

The back portion of the storage contain other important ports and parts that you should be familiar with. It has the Kensington lock port, best if you are putting this cloud storage in a public place like Internet Cafe. It has the reset button. And the USB 3.0 port.

Aside from the logo in the front side, there is one LED light.

The plastic housing has air vents on top, at the back and bottom. It will allow air to flow in and out around the hard drive inside the casing.

We plugged it and turn it live and we notice that the drive is a little bit warm. We will observe it in a few more days and lets see how it will perform.

Setting up WD MyCloud.
To setup MyCloud, connect it using the LAN cable provide in the box to your router. Routers usually has at least one LAN port. Connect the myCloud and power it up.

Next step is to download the setup program from the WD website, type the following URL in your browser: http://wd.com/setup/wdmycloud
