Senior Citizen Emma Sta. Cruz who is a neighbor, recently won $2,000,000 playing Powerball – after using the numbers that were printed on a fortune cookie she got from that resto a few days before the draw, New York Lottery announced yesterday.
“I was surprised, but pleased”, said Sta. Cruz who won in the Powerball drawing on February 1st after matching 5 of the winning numbers.

Six years ago, about 110 people from all over the US all hit the same Powerball numbers, each winning around $100,000, after using numbers from fortune cookies. Lottery officials investigated the matter and found that all the cookies came from a manufacturer in Long Island, New York, which produces over 4 million fortune cookies per day. No cheating was suspected – just a case of a batch of cookies with actual fortune!
“I took some time contemplating what I will do with the money,” Sta Cruz said in an official statement. “I plan to invest most of it and maybe take a trip to Switzerland to visit family.”
