Kimstore founder Kim Lato now hopes to give back and pay forward to the community that helped Kimstore become the brand it is today as one of the country’s pioneering IT retailers celebrates its 15th year.
She now wants to aid aspiring start-up firms and promote other small company merchants through many endeavors, driven by her enthusiasm for delivering inexpensive tablets, smartphones, and other electronic products to Filipinos. Moving ahead, she hopes to extend her own logistics platform, make collaborations with learning institutions for e-Commerce masterclasses, and collaborate with Filipino tech professionals to create and manufacture Pinoy-branded products that can compete in the world arena.
“Kimstore consistently demonstrates itself as the country’s go-to, pinupuntahan talaga pag dating sa online store for quality electronics,” said Secretary Ramon Lopez of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), alongside other Kimstore partners, during the brand’s 15th Anniversary Celebration held virtually. He also praised their efforts to provide the best possible discounts to customers and to employ Filipinos. Finally, he wished them long-term success and wealth in the coming years.

Lato founded the company while still a sophomore at De La Salle University, making her a pioneer of internet retailing in her early years. She discovered that many of these electronic items were largely offered by foreigners at a price that many Filipinos could not afford as a tech enthusiast who made regular web searches. At a period when the now-defunct Multiply ruled the budding social media, Lato wanted to present her fellow Filipinos with a better option: a Filipino online shop that offered high-end electronics at affordable prices. “Our ambition of offering Filipinos access to these technologies,” adds Lato, “is what truly motivated us to strive further.”
She found it difficult to persuade clients to buy her devices at first because she was a woman and a pioneer of Philippine internet retailing. However, with effort, devotion, and creating a very individualized experience for her clients, she was able to overcome the worries and uncertainties of the buying public. As more customers purchased high-quality, low-cost devices from Kimstore, other firms were motivated to follow suit.
Kimstore has remained one of the most reputable and trusted online gadget retailers in the country for the past 15 years, from its tiny Tondo office to its current Quezon City office and Valenzuela warehouse. Since the beginning of November, they’ve been running promotions like Shop and Celebrate at Kimstore in collaboration with PayMaya, 11.11 and 15.15 Deals, Payday Sale, Free Shipping Specials, Crystal Anniversary Sale, and Black Friday Sale to spread the joy.
“Despite the hardships we’ve had in the past, we continue to serve our consumers by providing top-notch customer service,” Lato said of the company’s 15-year journey. We’ve evolved as the country’s first and largest e-Commerce shopping store for tech and gadgets, from our humble beginnings at that McDonald’s opposite the university, through our adventures through social media like Multiply and Facebook, and culminating in our very own Kimstore.com.”
